Move Beyond Back Pain.

Build Lifelong Spine Health.

MEET FOUNDER & HEAD DPT

Hi, I'm Dr.Emily

After navigating various back injuries of my own, I knew there had to be a better way to help women move beyond persistent back pain instead of just managing it.

As a Doctor of Physical Therapy and Pilates Rehabilitation specialist, I’ve dedicated my career to understanding the spine and helping women feel strong, capable, and confident in their bodies again.

My approach bridges the gap between traditional rehabilitation and Pilates, combining mat Pilates with individualized movement, breath, mobility, control, and full-body movement integration to address what your body actually needs.

After working with hundreds of women with back pain, scoliosis, hypermobility, and complex spine conditions, I created the Spine Integration Method—a proven approach designed to help you understand your body, move beyond recurring pain, and use Pilates to build lifelong spine health.

Because the goal isn’t simply to get you out of pain..

It’s to give you the confidence, strength, and understanding your body needs to practice Pilates, stay active, and keep doing the things you love.

Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about transitioning from
chronic back pain to lifelong movement freedom.

What does it look like to work together?

Working together starts with a comprehensive movement assessment to fully understand your spine, your movement patterns, and what is contributing to your pain. From there, we’ll build a personalized plan using rehab-based Pilates to transform the way your body moves, build strength and confidence, and gradually integrate your body into the activities you love.

This includes individualized programming for your specific back pain (about 20-30 min of movement per day), consistent communication, and 1:1 face-to-face time to ensure you are fully supported throughout the process. We prioritize real-time adjustments and progressions as we work towards your specific goals—so you’re never left wondering what to do, whether you’re doing it correctly, or what comes next.

The thing we value the most: getting you the OUTCOME.

Do I need any equipment?

Nope! Just a mat or comfortable floor and yourself!

Do I need to already practice Pilates?

No previous Pilates experience needed! Some clients already love Pilates but struggle with pain, modifications, or recurring flare-ups. Others know they want to use Pilates to overcome their back pain but aren’t sure where or how to start. Your program meets you where you are.

What if Pilates has made my back pain worse before?

Pilates itself may not be the problem—the way certain movements are being performed, progressed, or loaded for your specific back pain may be. The goal isn’t to avoid Pilates movements forever, but to understand what your spine needs so you can build toward them safely and confidently.

Will I have to stop Pilates while working with you?

Not necessarily. For many clients, the goal is actually to help you continue or return to Pilates with greater confidence. We may temporarily modify certain movements, loads, or classes while building the mobility, control, and capacity your spine needs. Providing you with the awareness to handle anything that gets thrown at you in a class.

What if I’ve already tried physical therapy?

Many Emphasis clients have. Our approach is designed for women who feel like they’ve collected exercises, treatments, and diagnoses but still don’t fully understand what their body needs. Rather than simply giving you another set of exercises, we look at how your entire body moves, address every single aspect contributing to your pain without limitation, and progress towards your specific goals.

Can virtual rehab really help with back pain?

Yes. Virtual rehab is arguably more effective than in-person physical therapy. We heavily emphasize communication throughout our process, meaning you don’t have to wait until your next in-person appointment to get your questions answered. We rely on instant feedback, adjustments, and progressions to get you better efficiently and effectively. The virtual environment allows us to see every movement pattern contributing to your pain while also fitting in seamlessly with our clients’ busy lives.

Do you take insurance?

Traditional healthcare and insurance models can often place restrictions on the type, frequency, and personalization of care someone receives. At Emphasis Rehab, we’ve chosen a different approach—one that allows us to provide highly individualized, specialized rehab based on what each client actually needs, rather than what an insurance plan dictates.

For this reason, Emphasis operates on a private-pay basis. Many clients are able to use HSA or FSA funds toward our services, and we can provide supporting documentation for your records when needed.

How do I know if Emphasis is right for me?

Emphasis Rehab is likely a fit if you’re active, tired of temporary fixes, believe movement is part of the solution, want individualized guidance, and are ready to understand your body rather than fear it using a whole-body, nervous system regulating approach.
